June 20th, packing has been the aim, the container now has the first few boxes in and it looks like it will be hard to fill. The house is now sold and the contracts are signed which has made the move feel real, we shall be handing over the keys Monday 27th, its odd thinking that very soon we shall be leaving, it is exciting but cant help but feel a little sad to be saying goodbye to the place and the people that have helped change our outlook on life and furnished us with knowledge that will shape our future. Oh, very important this, we have also now found homes for all three of the street cats that made our garden their home, quite a relief as the new owners have a 'cat killer' dog... not the best thought for a cat lover like me, thanks June and Laura, I shall be forever grateful!!
Had a great leaving do on Saturday 11th, The small traditional Mehana 'Тихия кът' is relaxed yet full of character, the food and service was excellent, everyone wrote in our message book and the following morning it was a joy reading through it, we are blessed to have so many truly wonderful friends with so much love, kindness and encouragement for us, we shall miss everyone.
June 23rd, today I have had to sit down for a while and let it all flow over me, its been difficult packing with temperatures of 37 degrees over the last few days, energy levels are low and its difficult to stay focused and keep going, we have so much 'stuff'' we dont want or need, despite never having a tape measure at hand we now have a small mountain of them :) We have also had to sell the furniture which was a job we had not planned for. Anyway, we are on the final stretch, the Barkas has spent a few days to say the least in the garage but seems no different to before it went in - no words... The 90 however is running lovely, the caravan is prepared and as good as its going to be, the next few days will be full on, the final push to get the container full and ourselves on the road.
June 25th,
our 10th wedding anniversary, needless to say there were no plans made but we
did exchange gifts, Neil engraved a
padlock for us to lock onto the bridge in Veliko Tarnovo but in traditional
Bulgarian style the lock broke ha ha, the Cyrillic sign says 'exemplary home' and I
have found out that they could not be bought, they were placed on homes by the
government - a nice reminder of our time in Bulgaria and more than likely an item of great discussion in the future.
We did actually manage a meal in the hotel that we were married in with Didi
who was pretty much our wedding planner on the day, lovely evening!
June 27th
the day we became travelers, we handed over the keys for the house today after
a busy week and a manic final few days of packing the container which went quite
well (must have been the 4624 training).
Spent a couple of nights on blow-up beds which was very reminiscent of
when we first moved into the house roughly six years ago.
Unfortunately, I didnt get the quiet few minutes in the house that I had hoped for and even left our toothbrushes behind in the rush, but hey ho, it was no longer our home with our energy, surprising how quickly things can change.
Leaving Stefi was tough, for the last five years she has been our family across the street, she has always supported and provided for us and we will always be grateful that we had such a wonderful woman looking out for us, when she lost both her mother-in-law and husband pretty much within a year not so long back I am sure we helped fill that gap and I know this change will be tough for her too, lots of tears shed...

The wonderful messages and kind encouraging words have been endless, we have some fantastic memories to cherish and share, thank you all dear friends we love you!!
OMG cant quite believe we have no home and are on the road, writing that I have actually broken out into a smile, it good to spread your wings... ;)

Last night in the house. |

June 28th
and we are on the road hoping to make it to Skopje before dark, lol, there is
nothing worse than setting up the caravan in the dark... An emotional
departure, in fact an emotional few days full stop, starting with dropping Pee
Pee (our cat) with Terry, for me this was difficult, ideally I wanted him to travel with
us but as we will pass through non EU countries we decided not to take the risk
of having an issue when re entering the EU, so Stefi our neighbour was going to
foster him until we find a place to settle and then he would join us, but due
to the before mentioned dog that will be living at what Pee Pee would still
think was his home this was not possible, Terry has kept me updated and within
as little as 24 hrs he and Pee Pee are pals and he seems to be quite at home.
Two days of
continuous sorting, packing, giving, selling and throwing took their toll, to
those that came to see us over that time I can only apologise for being pre
occupied, thank you for making the effort. I also have to say a huge thank you
to Elaine who fed us whatever time we arrived at her table and gave us all a
bed last night when we really needed it and also to Totty and Simon who took
the kids for the last 24hrs, we would still be packing now if you hadnt.
